Hwaeppul Cup football tournament closes

The Hwaeppul Cup football tournament, which began on August 1 to mark Youth Day, came to a close on August 28. There were the men's and women's final matches at Kim Il Sung Stadium. In the women's final match between the April 25 and Sobaeksu teams the latter beat the former 2-1 (1-1 in the first and second halves, 1-0 in the extra time). The men's final match was played between the Ryomyong and Amnokgang teams. It ended in a 2-2 draw and there were no scores in the extra time. The latter won the match 6-3 in a penalty shoot-out. Cups and medals were awarded to the winning teams and excellent players at the football tournament. The Pyongyang Times, launched on May 6, 1965, is the DPRK's only English newspaper.
