University students in Pyongyang hold sports meeting

A sports meeting of university students in Pyongyang took place at the Taekwon-Do Palace on August 28 to mark Youth Day. Among the spectators were Kim Jong Sun, department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Hong Chol Jin, secretary of the Pyongyang Municipal Committee of the WPK, officials of the youth league and students in the city. Mun Chol, chairman of the Central Committee of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League, made a speech. The team of Kim Il Sung University won the men's volleyball final match with that of Kim Chaek University of Technology. Then, colourful amusement games were played amid the great competitive spirit and passionate enthusiasm of players and rooters. The tug-of-war final between the teams of Kim Il Sung University and Kim Chaek University of Technology heightened the atmosphere of the event. The sports meeting climaxed with a demonstration of the group of Taekwon-Do instructors of the Korean Taekwon-Do Committee. At the end of the event, the team standings were announced and commendations were awarded to the successful units. The Pyongyang Times, launched on May 6, 1965, is the DPRK's only English newspaper. It gives latest, detailed information about what is going on in the country in politics, the economy, culture and other sectors. And the paper also provides a vast knowledge of the nooks and crannies of Pyongyang.
