National sci-tech presentation in field of disaster management held

A national sci-tech presentation in the field of disaster management took place at the Sci-Tech Complex in Pyongyang from October 13 to 15 under the sponsorship of the Korean Disaster Management Association of the Central Committee of the General Federation of Science and Technology of Korea. Present there were officials, lecturers, researchers and graduate students of more than 10 units including Kim Il Sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology, the State Academy of Sciences, the Urban Management Science Institute under the Ministry of Urban Management and the Taean Friendship Glass Factory. Submitted to the presentation were dozens of scientific and technological proposals conducive to eliminating the danger of various kinds of natural disasters, putting the crisis control on a scientific, modern and IT basis and strengthening the state crisis control capability. Highly appreciated were papers on the methods of determining the construction sequence of coastal protective facilities for preventing damage by tidal waves, estimating river sediments by use of hydro-meteorological data and making an outline map for evacuation from disaster. The Pyongyang Times, launched on May 6, 1965, is the DPRK's only English newspaper. It gives latest, detailed information about what is going on in the country in politics, the economy, culture and other sectors. And the paper also provides a vast knowledge of the nooks and crannies of Pyongyang.
