A spokesman for the Defense Ministry of China decried the US’ manoeuvres for division at a press conference on October 30. Shortly ago, the United States and Taiwan had a “defense industry meeting” to discuss the issues of jointly researching, developing and producing weapons and stepping up the sale of munitions to the latter. As to this, the spokesman stressed that even if Taiwan purchases a larger number of weapons, it will never be able to alter the current defense postures of the armed forces on both shores of the Taiwan Strait and the inevitable fate of abortive attempt at “Taiwan’s independence”. He demanded the US stop playing with fire over the issue related to China’s core interests and fulfil its commitment on not supporting “Taiwan’s independence”. The Chinese People’s Liberation Army will thoroughly thwart any attempt at “Taiwan’s independence” and foreign interference and defend the national sovereignty and territorial integrity, he stated.
